Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year my students and I have spent a lot of time exploring our phonics skills explicitly. They have worked very hard to understand the foundations of reading. I feel like the one part we are missing in our classroom community is our small group reading experience. These students need to be given opportunities to explore phonic skills through fun activities that will inspire and motivate their learning further.
Learning should always bring enjoyment and as an educator I am always trying new ways to make learning fun and exciting.
It is important that students look forward to coming to school and are eager to learn new things. Reading is a civil right and without these tools I am worried that some of my students may not be inspired to learn how to read. Everyone deserves the right to learn how to read and I feel it is my duty as a teacher to expose them to new materials and reading instruction.
Once we have these materials we will need a place to organize and place them conveniently. That is why I included storage bins and rolling carts so students know where to put these new reading tools after using them. All of the other tools I have included will give students the opportunity to write spelling patterns, to practice reading fluency, or to engage in phonics through tactile function.
