Students Teaching with Technology

My students need a Digital Projector for presentations in English, Speech, and Debate classes.

I teach high school English, grades 9-12 and competitive speech and debate in a small rural 1-A school district. Our community is listed as a poverty community, but our students are amazingly interested in education and technology. My students know how to use PowerPoint and enjoy giving presentations, however, I do not have a projector in my room. We only have one projector for our school and it's difficult to have access to it when we need it.

Our high school students enjoy giving presentations using PowerPoint and creating electronic portfolios. We live in a high poverty remote area and our resources are limited. The students are motivated, the staff has the experience to assist the students, but we do not have the funds to purchase up to date equipment.

If we had access to another LCD projector, it would allow the English students the opportunity to give presentations using PowerPoint, graphics, video, audio, and create multimedia presentations. I'm also an advocate of empowering students to teach the skills they learn to other students. The students would like to be able to use a multimedia projector verses standing in front of a class and presenting with tagboard visual aides. We may be tiny, but we are mighty when it comes to the desire to keep up with world of technology.

Rural children from low income families want the same opportunities as children from higher income communities. The students at our school are motivated, have received scholarships to major Universities, have traveled to Nationals with the National Forensic teams, traveled to Nationals with the Future Business Leaders of American and the only thing that holds them back is access to equipment that larger districts are able to afford. They want to be prepared in the area of technology so that following high school graduation, they are prepared for college and the world of technology beyond their small rural community. I believe in our students and I hope that you will give serious consideration to our request. Thank you.
