Students Teach the Class Through Digital Presentations

My Project
This laptop will help bring three changes to the classroom which will give students new ways to learn and explore in my social studies classroom.
The first purpose of the laptop will be to support children who don't have a device to do research and write during class.
Many students do not have a device, and with cell phones being removed from classrooms this will help students collaborate in their groups when there is a technology day.
The second purpose is to have the students truly take over the presentation process of teaching classmates about historical topics. Students learn the most when they teach things they are interested in, or can identify with. We have lots of units where they get to choose a historical figure or event, and teach the class or group members about this moment in history not just through research knowledge but through creativity.
Some creative things they will do are slideshows, digital projects, and creative musical, dance, or artwork that they will upload to the computer. Project based learning is the heart of the classroom the second semester of the school year. We have so many students who want to express themselves artistically and when they have pride in their work it really changes their outlook in the classroom. I love the artistic passion of my students.
The third purpose will be to create stations in the classroom like a museum where one station will be the laptop. The laptop station will be for short videos, digital maps, slide shows, google earth, art, dance, and music that represents the different places we are learning about. This will help create opportunities for small group instruction with the teacher. It will also give students an opportunity to walk around and discover things with their classmates.
