This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! I teach 24 hard working fourth graders in a classroom community of Growth Mindset thinkers. If they have challenges meeting an academic goal, my students are supportive of one another and work together to meet those goals, even if it means spending recess together practicing multiplication facts or learning their spelling words.

My students are a group of caring individuals who thrive on sharing ideas and learning from one another.

In our classroom students may work at desks or move to areas where they feel most comfortable. They are encouraged to work with a partner or in a small group, to share ideas and problem solve.

My Project

I use the Workshop Method in both Math and Literacy daily in my classroom. Students work independently, with a partner, in small groups, and with the teacher. Depending on what their rotation is, students are expected to make wise choices about where they work in the classroom and that's where flexible seating comes in. I find that many students choose to work on the floor and that is great while reading a book or playing a math game, but it is not very conducive to written work. The Surf mobile writing desks will greatly improve student focus and finished product of their work, as well as promote student engagement.

The Surf is both a surface and a seat in one, because it is not stationary my students will be excited about using the unique desks.

It can be taken into the hall, anywhere in the classroom, and even outdoors! My students will be very engaged in their work whether using it to do research with a Chromebook, writing a story, or partners working out a math problem on the plastic surface with a dry erase marker. The Surf will be a perfect addition to our classroom!
