My Students
I teach at a Title I school in an underserved part of San Francisco. Many of the students are children of immigrants or live in the neighborhood's low-income housing development.
Though their families often have fewer resources, that doesn't stop my students' desire and ability to learn and achieve!
My students are curious, funny, sweet kids who can't wait to learn in third-grade. They are eagerly learning cursive, mastering their multiplication facts, reading chapter books, investigating live crayfish in science, making stop-motion videos about Native American life, typing up their stories on Chromebooks, and so much more.
My Project
I am requesting books that my students requested for maximum reading engagement. "Please get more Manga. If you do we would be very happy. They are very entertaining and based on our favorite animes. They have good POV's and interesting stories."

The ones in our classroom are ripped. Can you get the hard cover and full color too? If it's hard cover then it won't rip."
These are excerpts from my students' petition to get new books for our class. They have already devoured the books that were donated by generous donors in previous project (Hilo, Dog Man, Nathan Hale) and are rereading them over and over. Some books are dogeared from hundreds of times read and loved and a few even accidentally ripped (due to the popular "Flip-o-Rama" feature of Captain Underpants). Now my students are eager for reading even more diverse, popular (and some obscure) books.
These books will also tie in nicely with our Opinion Writing and Character Studies Reading units as students write reviews and give recommendations for books, and study character traits and themes of stories.
