My students come from different backgrounds. Most of them are from low income homes. This last year Rockport, Texas was hit by Hurricane Harvey and devastated our beautiful coastal town.
What I love about my students is their resilience.
We went back to school 5 weeks after the hurricane. Many of my students were displaced, living in tents, trailers, with relatives etc. Due to budget cuts and the damage caused to our schools we decided to permanently close one of our campuses and consolidate with the others. We now have more students at the elementary level and are lacking the equipment needed for our large class sizes.
I have used exercise balls with my students but at a lower grade level and they love working on the balls. The exercise balls are great for keeping students engaged. Exercise balls are good for balance and provide a great workout for many muscle groups.
My students life experiences are limited due to their low income status.
I try to provide opportunities for them to experience and use a variety of P.E. equipment because of these economic limitations.
The exercise balls will be used at different times throughout the year. We will use them for warm-ups and during our gymnastics unit. I also like to use them around the Holidays for rhythmic activities with lummi sticks. They make great drums while providing a great core workout! The balls will allow my students workout while having fun.
