Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be teaching a group of 30 fifth graders, in a high-poverty Title I school, that are absolutely amazing. They come from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, which allows them to learn about each other in a way that some students do not always have the opportunity to do in school. Some of my students are new to the United States this year, some are the first or second generation of immigrants in their families, and some have lived their whole lives in the United States. Within my own room, I have multiple students that are bilingual or still learning English. They are some of the hardest working kids that I have had the pleasure to teach in my career.
My students are a group of curious and eager learners.
They are kind, hard-working, and smart. That is why they deserve to have access to the same resources as students at more affluent schools.
My Project
My class is a very active bunch. They have a constant need to move and fidget all day long. Some of my students will use any excuse to get up and move constantly throughout the day.
I have one wobble stool that is greatly benefiting one of my most active students, and I would love to give the rest of my class the same opportunity.
This particular student has greatly increased in both productivity and attentiveness.
Many of my students have expressed the desire to have different seating options. As the year goes on, I believe new active seating options will help optimize my instructional time.
