Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my fourth grade class are extraordinary. Over half come from homes that speak only a language other than English.

Most of the students at our school (about 80%) come from low income homes.

Some students are dealing with emotional issues as well as past trauma.

I have a large number of students in my classroom (29 students in one class). My students are driven by using technology. They enjoy reading ebooks, posting on discussion boards for classwork, and creating projects on the computer. They enjoy working together on group projects as well.

My Project

The tablets will bring new literacy to the lives of low-income English learners. Tablets will bring excitement to learning English, as well as motivate them to read more often. Having tablets in the classroom allows me to assign books to the students, so that they are reading books on their individual reading level.

Too often, students associate reading in a negative way, and I want to build a love of reading in my students, so that education can be their way out of poverty.

Headphones will allow students to listen to books as they read, promoting fluency. They will also use these headphones when watching educational videos for research.
