This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are from a Title I school in Queens, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Every year our students start the school year stressed that they don't have the tools they need to succeed - I want to relieve that stress.

As a sped teacher, each of my students needs customized learning materials and fidgets in order to accommodate their different learning styles and learning goals. This includes mechanical pencils instead of traditional pencils, color coding materials, highlighters, zippered bags to keep their materials organized, playdoh (fidget), and masks to help them feel safe. Colorful and personal learning materials get my students excited about learning! Students not only take ownership of their materials but of their learning as well. Your help is greatly appreciated as I can not afford to purchase all of these materials on my own.
