My students need to learn differently. Cameras and SD cards can be used to present and share learning experiences and allow them to be creative and innovative.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In English class we often forget the standards that are hit when we present and create our learning instead of simply reading and writing it. I want to promote creativity and can with cameras to capture the dynamics of presenting so students can reflect on their experience when viewing themselves.
In a part of town known for violence and poverty, the students live in the middle of a 21st century world, but don't always have access to 21st century technology at home.
Unfortunately, my kids don't at school either. I want to create experiences with real-world applications and 21st century relevance. These kids are creative, but the creativity is limited by their access to create digital and lasting memories. I want them to get to see themselves on screen, see themselves learning, being creative, and being entertaining at the same time. There is something special about seeing yourself on a screen and especially when the people that you normally watch on TV aren't the same color as you and don't have the same worries or issues.
My Project
I don't plan lessons; I plan experiences. This is not something I take lightly. As adults, we all know how we personally learn and we don't expect others to learn the same way that we do. As students, the experiences that are the most effective are the ones that they will have a personal connection to. There is nothing more personal than seeing yourself perform. I plan to use these cameras to show these students what they look like when they present, how the creative process works to create short films, and to interpret their reading in a more kinesthetic and thought provoking way than just written response.
When students are given an opportunity to create dynamic, multimedia based videos, they can see the whole process of what it takes to brainstorm, write, perform, create, edit, and publish a short film that displays their knowledge they take themselves through a process that can innovate how they think in all aspects of learning and life.
This is invaluable, but affected with a couple hundred dollars and a few cameras.
