Students Loving Poetry!

Help me give my students a CD player to hear current and classic songs to analyze and compare to poetry and a DVD player to view scenes from movies.

My Project

I would like students to appreciate and engage with poetry. One introductory lesson is to play songs on a CD player so students can apply and analyze literary elements to theme, figurative language, and conflict/resolution. These songs will be both popular/recognizable to students and classic songs they may be unfamiliar with.

Students will analyze and share their intellectual and emotional responses with small sticky notes and colored paper on the sticky note easel pads around the room.

Responses will be words and visuals.

Students will do gallery walks, present their analysis, and learn from classmates' presentations. Wipes needed to clean boards and desks.
