This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Please help us get the hard cover copies of Bud, Not Buddy. I am a fourth grade teacher in a low income school in Chicago. Bud, Not Buddy is such a great novel that even reluctant readers fall in love with it. The author, Christopher Paul Curtis, captures his readers with an enthusiastic main character, Bud Caldwell. Bud, Not Buddy is a novel full of laugh-out-loud humor, wonderful characters, and an enticing look into the jazz era during the Great Depression. Because I have been using the paperback edition of this book for 5 years, I am in desperate need of some new books. Every year the hands of 10 year olds get a hold of this book and just can't put it down. They beg me to read "just one more chapter". Last year my students rallied together to fix my Bud books, because they couldn't imagine a class not being able to read this story. After many feet of tape and an afternoon of work, the books are still not up to par. Please help me keep this book apart of my curriculum. You will be bringing joy into many young readers lives. And if you can't donate, do yourself a favor, and buy yourself Bud, Not Buddy. It deserves to be on every bookshelf!!
