This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a dance teacher of grades K-5 in a very high need area of New York. Almost all of our children live in the neighboring housing projects. Students at our school have virtually no opportunity to participate in the extracurricular activities that many of their wealthier peers enjoy. I take my job very seriously and want to give my students a full artistic experience. I service roughly 500 students every year so materials are put to repeated use. Funding supplies for this year ensures that students for years to come will benefit as well.
My students are dying to learn how to dance Flamenco. After hearing the children's enthusiasm for the subject I have decided to create an entire unit that features the traditional dances of various cultures.
In order to teach this lesson on traditional dances I will need castanets for the flamenco portion and ribbons for the art of Chinese ribbon dancing.
Your help will ensure that the students at our school get the same opportunity to express themselves and have fun as any other child. I can assure you that the students will be ecstatic to learn these dances. The arts are essential to the development of our young students. Lets work together to make art education a reality in our schools.
