My Project

My school serves a diverse population at a high needs school. Many of my students are multilingual learners who struggle with reading and writing. We are in need of high- interest, low level books and magazines for our ESL students.

We currently have no extra funding to spend on classroom books or magazines.

Much of the classroom library is filled with books that are way too difficult for my students to read and/or old and tattered. Students do not currently enjoy browsing the classroom library because they don't see books they can connect to or understand. High interest books like graphic novels, books with relatable characters and Time For Kids Magazine subscriptions would change our independent reading block because students would finally be able to browse and select texts that they wanted to read!

Reading fiction books and non-fiction magazines can be a game changer for the students I teach. Reading texts that they actually comprehend (and enjoy!) can help our students build their vocabulary, understand grammar better, and become more fluent in English. And let's be honest, when kids enjoy what they're reading, they're more likely to keep reading! Reading is such a fundamental skill, and with your help, we can make it more accessible and enjoyable for my students!
