My Students

The start of our students' next school year will be remembered from the Coronavirus pandemic. Having to cancel and shut down schools in the middle of our school year was devastating. Our students were deeply affected socially, physically, and mentally. Most of our parents were affected during the closures of nonessential workers and being laid off.

During our distance learning Zoom meetings, I have about 90% participating and the other 10% of my students are doing paper based learning.

My students are being actively engaged, but I have many students that are having difficulty completing classwork assignments at home due to lack of resources like books. I want my students to be strong readers and have good comprehension skills so they won't struggle in 2nd grade.

My Project

I never imagine being out for the rest of the school year and having to teach virtually.

My students went home with no books or resources to rely on.

Many of my students have been using YouTube to listen to the read alouds. However, not all my students have the technology and/or internet so this makes it impossible for them to listen to the read aloud of the week and do the activities to go along with the books. Some of my students are sharing smart phones with their parents, which prevents them from participating in choral reading without the actual book in hand. I have about 80% of my students that are visual learners and tactile, so for them to physically have the actual books at home is going to help tremendously.

I would love to provide my students with books for the rest of the school year by personally delivering these brand-new books to them. These materials/books will help my students read and follow along with their parents or siblings. This will also help my students take turns reading the book of the week while the rest of the classmates are following along during our virtual read aloud. To encourage independent reading, I have selected a level book for each of my students. This it will improve the functioning of their brains by increase their reading fluency and vocabulary.

My goal is to give each of my student’s brand-new books. This project is going to be a blessing and will help my parents and students be stress free.
