Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third grade is comprised of 24 extraordinary students who are eager to learn and love to explore new ideas from different disciplines. Most of them are from Hispanic and African American descent and are classified as low-income status families. Over 93% of them qualify or receive free lunch and our school is a Title I school. They are part of a Maritime STEAM Magnet school, and they love learning things with hands-on experience.
However, due to their dire economic and social conditions, most of my students still struggle in their academic growth and requires extra supports.
Understanding their backgrounds, I persevere to provide my students with dynamic learning experiences where they can touch, see, and feel what they are learning about, while they are absorbing the knowledge coming from their experiences.
In order to continue inspiring these wonderful student populations, I perceive the need to hone my teaching skills by obtaining the National Board Certification, so that I can better service their needs. As stated in the NBCT website, "Every Student deserves to be taught by an accomplished teacher." I would love the chance to improve my teaching practice to make a difference in the lives of my students.
My Project
Through National Board Certification Teaching (NBCT) process, I will reflect on my current teaching practices and skills. I know that teachers never stop learning and this will be my chance to grow professionally, and to apply what I learn from the experience back to my classroom.
I will continue to work with the underprivileged and impoverished student populations to challenged them and inspire them to make a difference in their lives for the better with improved academic practices acquired from NBCT process.
My hope is to help them achieve their academic potential so that they can break the cycle of poverty and walk the path of freedom and success.
