Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, bright, and full of curiosity about the world we live in! They love to read together, discuss and debate human issues!
Almost 90% of our students receive free or reduced-cost meals, which is reflective of the poverty level in the community in which they live which is also the place where I grew up.
Our school is where my students travel the world, meet interesting characters, experience different cultures, and historical events...all through the books read together in reading class!
My Project
My students are enthusiastic about learning about historical events in reading/literature class. Most of them have little background knowledge of the Holocaust. These materials will help bridge student understanding of this important event in history.
A student once asked me, "Did the Holocaust really happen?
" Why haven't we learned about it before now?"
Students will read the novels as a class and then perform research culminating in the creation of a multimedia Holocaust project, focusing on one aspect of the Holocaust. Our goal after reading and researching is to use our school's technology to create a pop-up Holocaust museum, with students acting as docents for other classes of students.
