Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a full-time school psychologist at our elementary school. I have been a school psychologist for fourteen years. I see students in special education with guidance goals, and I also teach students in the general education classroom. My students range from anxiety problems, anger management, divorce parents, depression, students dealing with grief, emotional dysregulation, and autism. This year I want to continue Mindfulness and add the curriculum of Zones of Regulation to all the classrooms that would want it. Zones of Regulation is a research based approach to teach students about emotions and how to regulate them.

My Project

At Herriman Elementary, students who participate will learn from the program Zones of Regulation. This program helps students identify, manage, and regulate their emotions. When they have a strong emotion, they will be able to apply some of the coping skills using our resources such as using the stress ball, drawing with the scented markers, finding the magic message for the students who will have a behavior contract to earn a reward, and I will read the books to the students about emotions in a small and/or general education classroom.
