This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
About My Students
It is exciting for Natasha, Najah, Ja'Myia, Dakhia, Mohammad, Alex, Amy, Richie, Mallory, Raiden, Michaela, Rashawn, Andrew, and Megan as they are eager to take character to the next level and desire to build a room of character to further their impact on the school community.
The Knights of the Round-table had begun this year and our students were concerned with the amount of cyber bullying that was occurring. They wanted to begin to address it from peers to peers. Therefore they started #starttheripple to begin to promote positive changes. Students have gone to training and meet daily. However, now they want to create a room with the requested furniture, DVDs and activities to help spread the impact and have a place to promote character to even more students. Their idea is to have this room and create programming for students and families that helps promote stronger character.
Through the writing of reflections and developing strong social-emotional skills such as teamwork and real-life problem-solving, the students are addressing head on tough situations as a team. The students must work together to identify the issues and then together as a team come up with solutions to help improve the culture and character of their peers. Through the design of presentations, research, and writing of plans, the students will address many real-life academic skills that will help them in college and their careers.
In Their Own Words
Hi we are a part of the Knights of the Roundtable at our school. We are excited about the idea of having a room of character at our school. We hope we can bring our peers together to help promote character and expand our impact.
Everyday we meet with our teacher and work to come up with ideas to help promote character and team building among ourselves and at a school level. We hope that this project of having a character room allows us to grow our own leadership opportunities and expand the impact we are making. We envision a place where we can do programming for not only our peers, but our community on building a stronger school of character.
We believe that strong character helps promote a better student that is more well-rounded. It is important to us that we address out of character moments from our peers and offer methods and opportunities to show character in the various lights. We are middle schoolers and all make mistakes, we want that to be ok and to offer ways to learn and grow from them. We are excited about the impact this can have on our school and community.
