Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The fifth grade students at our urban, public school are an eager group of young scholars working in a low-income area (Title I school). They are hard-working, enthusiastic, inquisitive students from a diverse array of backgrounds and cultures. They represent much of the best qualities of our country.
Our students come from a working class neighborhood located in one of our nation's largest school districts.
Often, our school struggles with funding issues to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students. We have a very supportive parent community, each one striving to provide their children a quality education.
I am very proud of each student and plan to enhance their education by providing them with a powerful new novel that teaches a timeless message in an entertaining manner. In addition, we will be arranging school visits from the book's authors. This experience will provide inspiration for our students as they develop their reading and writing skills.
My Project
The requested resources will help my students learn about and design various solutions to problems caused by global climate change. Reading "Old Enough to Save the Planet" will inspire students as they learn about the environmental efforts of youth in various places around the globe. "Adventures in Engineering" will enable students to delve deeply into engineering solutions that may help solve problems caused by climate change. This book also includes hands-on activities to help students explore their ideas with hands-on activities. Finally, students will use the two different hands-on architecture kits to put their ideas into practice.
More than half of students from low‑income households
