This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Science and Engineering students enjoy the fact that they get to learn through projects. Not only do they learn the facts that we all associate with those subject; they also get to work like scientists and engineers, performing experiments to answer questions and designing creative solutions to problems.

Since my school struggles to provide Career Tech classes, those who want to learn about engineering and manufacturing join my after-school programs.

In two programs, we design and build robots, which we compete with in interscholastic robot games. In a third program, we customize, build, and race hydrogen powered cars. These programs are funded fully by grants, fundraising, and donations.

My Project

My students have designed and built an R/C car that runs on Hydrogen using fuel cells. They have everything except the plastic body. They plan to design and manufacture their own body to challenge their engineering skills.

Students will design a car body on a computer, print a mold on a 3D printer, make a plaster cast, vacuum-form plastic around the plaster, and then paint the plastic body to show school spirit.

Finally, they'll race their car against other schools to see who has designed the most efficient alternative fuel vehicle. Students compete for the right to advance to state and international races.
