Students Build Their Own Fox Talbot Pinhole Camera!

My students need 8 different art supplies, such as scissors, white glue, wood glue, x-acto knives, tape, brush basin's, and extra blades.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Millam's classroom raised $300

This project is fully funded

Students eager to build their own camera's! I teach high school photography. My students are mainly Juniors and Seniors. I teacher 5 periods of beginning photography, with one period of advanced/ intermediate students.

My students get the rare chance to build their own camera made out of balsa wood. This mimics the same camera's that were built in the early 1830's that Fox Talbot would have made. This is a great project that jump starts the school year and get students interested in photography. The supplies that I currently have to build the camera with are old and dull. With up coming budget cuts in California it makes it difficult to order essential supplies for a photography class and some supplies have to be sacrificed in order to have enough film, photo paper and chemicals.

I am asking for the following essential supplies for students to successfully build a pinhole camera. We need a class set of Xacto knives and extra blades as they dull fairly quickly. With a class set and sharp blades each student will be able to work without having to borrow supplies from each other. I also need white glue and wood glue. Some students need the white glue because it drys slower and gives them the chance to work with the walls of the camera more, while other students prefer the quick drying of the wood glue. The class also needs some new scissors as we only have 4 pairs for 40 students! This will allow students to not have to sit around and wait for scissors to cut their lens out of the soda can. I am asking for 10 brush basins the students use at the end of the project to paint their camera's, and right now students do not have anywhere to keep bushes so this will help keep the classroom clean and orderly. The benefits these supplies will have on the project are great. Student will have the opportunity to participate in a part of photo history and learn how simple photography can be. Students are amazed at the quality of the photograph that comes out of a camera made from balsa wood.

Your help will ensure that my students are able to build the best possible pinhole camera that they can build with these supplies. With your donation you are turning kids on to the visual arts and helping to set them up for a successful school year.
