Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students will use recycled bottles with several chambers, representing aquatic, terrestrial, and atmosphere in this semester-long inquiry project. They will learn key concepts in Environmental Science by creating their ecosystem out of pond water, sand, and gravel with aquatic plants and fish. This chamber links to soil and plants (basil, radish, and beans) with worms and terrestrial insects, that in turn generate oxygen for the atmospheric system to thrive.

This hands-on project helps students learn concepts such as the the interaction between living and nonliving environment, as well as what's needed to maintain a healthy environment and climate for us all.

Students measure the health of their ecosystem using the probes, such as soil parameters (pH, fertility, and temperature) and water quality (pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrates, nitrites, and temperature) over a period of 2-3 months.
