Mrs. Shaw from Philadelphia PA is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need supplies such as laminating pouches, book binding spines, and ink in order to publish books.

The students at my school are an energetic and hardworking group of children. They enjoy coming to school, but school funding cuts over the years have impacted what schools can provide to individual classrooms.
I teach second grade in an urban neighborhood where all the students at school are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch.
Some students live below the poverty line and their families struggle to provide them with basic necessities needed to be successful in school. Despite these obstacles, our school has hard-working students as well as teachers and staff who strive to make our school a welcoming and inviting place. In addition, our school is one of the top-performing schools in the city.
I have been very fortunate to have received a printer, laminator, and binder through previous DonorsChoose.org projects. My students are currently writing their own stories and will bind their final stories. The ink would allow students to type their stories using different colors and different fonts that make their story special and unique. My students are so eager to actually have a bound and laminated book they created from scratch. They are learning to be writers and illustrators that go through drafting, revising, editing, and finally publishing. Empowering students through bookmaking will help turn my students into thoughtful authors.
Donations to this project will allow my students to make their books look and feel professional.
This is the third year I have done bookmaking with my students. Some even have older brothers and sisters that made books last year, and they have asked if they too would be making their own books.
This project being funded means we will have the necessary resources needed to create books. My students will feel like "real authors" and have a book they personally wrote, illustrated, and published. This book that they made will be theirs to keep forever. It will be a tremendous accomplishment for my students. It will also be something my students will have forever.
