Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students, here at our school come from a diverse, urban, low socioeconomic community. We are a Title I school with 82% of our kids on free or reduced lunch. I teach Aquatic and Environmental Science and unfortunately the majority of my students and their parents have had little to no interaction or experience with aquatic life outside of the movie "Finding Nemo".
This project will make my subjects come alive and real to them in a way never before.
After receiving feedback from my students last year it was obvious that they enjoy hands-on learning, with the aquariums that we have, because it is so far from what they are used to doing.
My Project
With this shopping list my students will not only be able to learn about the aquarium, but they will also be able to use the video camera along with the advanced audio recording equipment to produce high quality HD videos that will be used as educational material for parents, community members and other schools to enjoy. In this grant I've included accessories that ensure the successful implementation of this ongoing project, such as rechargeable batteries that will allow us to ensure constant power to the microphones, receivers, lights and more without the waste of traditional alkaline batteries. The educational videos will be placed on our class website that can be shared with others. The act of taking learned material and transforming it into a presentation that you are teaching others not only solidifies that learning, but it also will help them develop skills necessary for post secondary readiness such as, communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. This really is a "Dream Come True" project. Thank you for your help.
