My Students
I have been teaching middle school Language Arts /Intensive Reading classes for 20 years. This year's assignment is only Intensive Reading classes. The students in my classes struggle with their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and informational text which are very important for their success academically.
Most of the students are a few grade levels behind their actual age and grade level.
In fact, some students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are on Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, or 4th grade reading levels. For me to aid my students to reach their full reading potential and to practice the reading skills necessary to achieve the mastery of the reading skills they need to have hands-on individual activities that are provided through computerized programs such as i-Ready which I'm required to use for differentiated instructions while working with these students.
As I have only two (2) computers in my classroom that task is very difficult to achieve since I have in each class over 20 students. As you can see, I'm struggling to help my students to practice the computerized program which is essential for their progress because it's aligned to the Florida States Standards (FSA).
My Project
The district requires that students take a diagnostic test on i-Ready to test their reading levels. If students whose score is two (2) or more grade levels below are in red. These students are required to work on their i-Ready lessons at least 75 minutes a week. Students whose score is one grade level below (yellow) work on their i-Ready lessons at least 60 minutes a week. Those on grade level (green) work on the i-Ready lessons for at least 45 minutes a week.
As you notice these Samsung Chromebooks are very essential to my reading instructions to help my students reach the goal to master their reading skills.
