My Students
The student leaders who are part of the Timbertail Tech Team demonstrate strong work ethic, dependability, and collaboration as they strive to be solutionists in our school community. The team gathers on Wednesday mornings before school, eager to support staff members with their technology needs. They pride themselves on building a strong community that has respect and responsibility as the foundation.
While not out fulfilling teacher job requests, students strive to be creators with technology instead of just consumers of it.
Each member of the Timbertail Tech Team selects an element of our graduate profile that he/she would like to grow in. Then he/she creates an individual goal that involves using some type of technology to showcase their growth in the selected element. The kids consistently demonstrate engagement and goal-oriented thinking as they empower others to do the same.
My Project
After watching a local news story about the Timbertail Tech Team, the Director of User Experience from the Information Technology Services Department at St. Norbert College was inspired to reach out to our elementary student technology team. He noticed several parallels between the support our students provide to teachers in our school and the work the ITS staff at the college provide to teachers and students there. A generous invitation to visit campus to have our students shadow the ITS staff provided a real-world experience that the kids will never forget.
An official ITS name badge kicks off the experience as students step into the shoes of an ITS help desk staff member.
They engage in discussions about how to best support their customers, tour the ITS Department, explore virtual reality in the classroom, try their hand at creating programs, discover the possibilities with 3D printing, and fulfill a job request submitted by a professor.
Students always leave campus inspired to bring new learning back to school and empowered to continue offering technology support to teachers. This powerful community connection allows students and Timbertail Tech Team leaders to create meaningful and authentic connections. These connections are highly valued and influence learning beyond what we believed they could.
