Students at our school are very diverse and come from a variety of cultural backgrounds that create a great melting pot school community.
We are a dual site school and have a building for lower grades of pre-k and one for upper grades of 3rd-5th.
Most families in this school neighborhood are struggling to pay high rents and cost of living in Brooklyn. As the primary art teacher in both buildings I strive to provide students with as much exposure to a variety of art materials and experiences as possible on a low budget of art materials each year.
My Project
Drawing is an important activity where students learn to see and observe things around them in a new way. Drawing allows them to pay attention to small things, to details or things that would otherwise go unnoticed.
With the high cost of living as well as the cost of other school supplies, students must provide for themselves.
Families struggle to buy everything their children need.
There is not enough money in the art budget for our school to buy sketchbooks for every student. This grant would provide sketchbooks for each student to use in the art room when they come each week.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
