This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are sixth graders in a dual-language school. My school is a special place and a wonderful community. Teachers and students alike are happy to be in school and are excited and eager to learn.
I want students to be able to choose and request their own independent reading books based on their interests.
My Project
New young adult books are constantly coming out. This year, my students have been requesting specific titles, so I decided to have them request specific titles and put up a DonorsChoose project. Additionally, in order to support a local business, we will be purchasing these books from an independent books store.
These titles include manga, historical fiction, realistic fiction, and informational.
Students have a variety of reading interests. What better way to get students reading than to let them select the books? They have already been asking me when these books are coming, so I hope this project gets funded quickly!
