Aneesha is a senior that is going to college to become a Veterinarian. She chose this career path because of this project and the exposure to all facets of animal science, community and business experiences. Many students have chosen similar paths and serve as great role models
This idea generated from our Humane Education unit that I teach to the 9th graders. Once the students were told that they lived in a city that has the highest number of abused and homeless animals in the state of NJ, along with the highest rate of euthanasia of dogs, they wanted to help change those statistics. They learned that the main reason families surrender the family pet or "let them out," is because of the lack of funds or monetary resources to keep up with food/shots. The students wanted to help lessen the burden by assisting with free food and low cost shots and neutering,
Students will be able to develop lifelong and career-developing skills. Organization skills, communication skills, business-negotiating, fundraising, technology, advertising, financial literacy, understanding the legal aspects with dog law and politics surrounding animals (city ordinances), are all things they will learn. Students will realize the importance of giving back to the city and the benefits to the future generations. The students need a charging station for tablets, carrying cases for technology, and flash drives.
My name is Aneesha and I am the president of this project. We want to help the residents of the city keep their WHOLE family together during this low economic state. We would like to provide free pet food, educate on best pet care practices, and provide resources for low-cost pet services for shots and neutering. The charging station, flash drives and storage bags will aid in organization.
Our teacher will act as an advisor and guide us in the direction we need to go in order to best fulfill our mission. We really run all aspects of this project. We just run any new ideas or creative changes past our teacher, in case there is an angle we may not have thought about. Our teacher will assist in organizing materials, assisting with how to best use each for more effectiveness. The charging cart, flash drives and storage bags will really help keep us organized.
This project is about compassion for all living things. Supporting struggling families and showing that we care spreads the love in a city riddled with violence. We are the future of the city. We can rewrite the script and fill the streets with compassion instead of violence. The charging station, flash drives and storage bags will allow us better organization to make us more effective in aiding the residents and their pets.
