This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have been handed a lot of challenges in life that are of no fault of their own, ranging from emotional and learning disabilities to mental health issues, to poverty, and neglect. These challenges are so major that the student's future goals often take a back seat and seem impossible. Many of our students live in neighborhoods where they cannot go outside and explore their interests or talents because it is just too dangerous, and in some cases, their parents cannot afford to put them in extracurricular activities. Our class is the only time some get to explore and gain experience.
My students are wonderful, ambitious individuals who have their whole future ahead of them to make changes to the lifestyle they were brought up in.
With a little help from the right people, anything is possible!
My Project
We are a special needs school, and we are providing vocational hours within the school setting to assist our students with internship hours towards graduation. We have started a school Cafe run by these students in the transition program. In order to run the cafe successfully, we need a microwave, fridge and toaster oven. With the cafe, we hope to give work experience for student resumes. We hope to teach them life and work skills such as hospitality, budgeting money, baking skills, inventory skills, prepping and making smalls meals. We appreciate all donations.
