This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are driven, hard-working, bright, humorous, intelligent, and kind. They attend a Title I public school meaning they are from a high poverty, low-income community in which the vast majority receive free or reduced lunch. I teach high school mathematics in an underfunded, marginalized urban school.
My Project
My goal this year is to designate an area in the classroom specifically for a "student resource center" to organize the materials needed for in class and take home activities and assignments. In my classroom, I use an interactive notebook method in which students are able to adhere notes, diagrams, and mathematical figures into the pages of their mathematics notebooks. I have noticed from previous years that confusion arises when students do not readily have access to these materials. I am asking for printer paper, pencils, and filing supplies that will allow me to continue to provide these enrichment materials in an organized center for students to access. With the student resource center, students will always have access to previous assignments and present activities to prevent anyone from falling behind or missing content. These materials will help provide needed materials to all students.
