My Students

My classroom is a representation of the world. I have students of all races, cultures, religions, socioeconomic, and abilities. Our school is one of the most diverse schools in the nation!

We have students from over 20 different nations and there are over 20 different languages spoken throughout the building!

Despite being a Title I school and having one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, our students are a family - if only the rest of the world would follow their example.

My Project

Student choice helps create ownership of learning, especially when novels are of high interest. Literature Circles are a great way for students to feel empowered in their learning. Not only do students get to choose their own books, but their own projects as well.

Students were given a list of books from Project Lit, Kentucky Bluegrass Awards, and local authors; and these are the books they voted on to add to our Literature Circle options!

This selection of books provides Mirrors & Windows for students to realize they are not alone and have more in common with each other than they think.
