My Students

I have a very diverse group of learners. I am the librarian at two low-income schools with over 85% of the students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. This diverse group of students comes from bilingual households, struggles with language at school, lives in high poverty/low-income households, and has various reading levels. However, these students also want to learn. I work hard to build a love of reading with my students.

I work hard to provide equitable resources students may not otherwise receive, including high-interest literature (books where they can see themselves reflected), and STEM experiences that inspire them to meet goals and challenge them to persevere through critical thinking and problem-solving.

Much of what I do in the library focuses on equity, inclusion, Social-Emotional Learning, and valuing each other. I also provide books that inspire students to work towards a 21st-century job that interests them and incorporate STEM learning whenever possible.

My Project

Students need high interest books available to "hook" them early in their academic careers. Student choice is important in the school library. Students need books where they feel represented. My students have written requests for a number of high interest series and various books that interest them.

Please help me give my students the books they have requested to add to our school library.

I would love to provide students with books that peak their interest. Students often recommend books that interest them to their classmates. Students will be able to enjoy these student chosen books in the school library for many years to come.
