This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school come from various backgrounds. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch and a light supper. My students face many challenges at home. The challenges vary in nature, and yet they continue to be inquisitive and push forward. Not having the necessary resources or materials to fulfill assignments or projects is one of those challenges. For some time now, our classrooms have also been facing the same challenges. Yet despite these, my students and I don't give up; we persevere.
I always try to make sure to provide my students with the best learning experiences so they can succeed throughout their career as students and essentially in their career as productive citizens.
We are a STEM magnet center. It is important to me that my students have positive learning experiences. I want to make sure that they carry these experiences throughout their lifetime. I want to make sure that I made a positive impact. My kiddos are not the only ones learning in my classroom. I also learn from them, so having the necessary materials and resources in our classroom is critical and vital!
My Project
Do you remember when you were in school and your teacher told you that you were going to make books with your exemplars? Do you remember those books just being stapled together? I want my students to feel proud of the work and the accomplishments they make throughout the school year. One way to do that is to be able to put exemplars together in book format using a book binding machine.
Throughout the school year, I prepare my students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning by presenting and discussing with their parents their report card, certificates, work samples, stories and goals they set; but we need the book binding machine for a professional look.
Having the book binding machine will allow my kids to feel proud of what they are going to share with their parents and others. Everything that is going to be shared will be neatly organized and look professional for a presentation. The stories they write can be made into their own student anthology with a clear plastic cover displaying the title page. During parent conferences, my students can sit down with their parents and discuss their report card while sharing their work portfolio.
We need the book binding machine, the clear plastic covers, the back covers, and the combs. Students won't have to open a file folder with loose papers to share their work. There is no chance of papers getting tossed around and out of order if they can be bound together as a book. We won't have to use rings or staples to bind papers together as a book. My students will be motivated to do their best because their best will now be displayed in such a professional manner.
