My Students

"Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way." - Edward de Bono.

Our library encourages students to be creative through the use of technology, gaming and the arts.

Students are learning new, real life skills but don't tell them that!

We are in a suburban town in Long Island, New York. The students in our school range in age from eleven too fourteen. Many are interested in the use of computers and technology but don't have the opportunity to learn the skills. When I mention bringing new technology to the library, their faces light up and their excitement is evident in their smiles and their comments about how much they look forward to learning.

I'm always seeking new technological ideas and materials for them. It's great because they don't realize they are learning because they are having too much fun.

My Project

The students in my school love to visit the library during their lunch period and some of the favorite items to use are the Sphero, Cue & Dash robots. Currently, we have seven robots available for student use but only four iPads to control them. My students love using the robots and it's a shame to see a few sitting on the shelf unused because we do not yet have enough iPads to power them. These three iPads would make all the robots usable at the same time allowing for more students to participate in robotics.
