Technology gives students the chance to interact with their classmates more by encouraging collaboration. Instead of the boring paper projects, I encourage students to become movie producers using apps like iMovie, and Green Screen by Do Ink. By creating movies students teach about what they learn.
I work at three diverse elementary schools.
Two of my schools are inclusion schools which focus on students with disabilities. One has a high number of autistic students who are mainstreamed into the regular classroom.
Most of my students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some have supportive adults at home that can provide the help that is needed, and others simply do not. My schools are focused on literacy and determined not to let these students fall through the cracks. We employ a variety of methods to help make learning a successful experience, technology is one of these methods. We encourage our students to take control of their learning with student based activities.
My Project
My students will use the two Apple iPad mini 4 tablets with two Griffin Technology Survivor Slim Cases to transform their writing into digital projects. They will learn how to create book trailers using iMovie's trailer templates, green screen videos using Do Ink and a variety of digital storytelling apps like Tellagami and Chatterpix. They will also create math video tutorials using apps like Shadow Puppet and Educreations. These video tutorials will be used as study guides for other students who struggle with the concepts.
Having these Apple iPad mini 4 tablets will allow students the experience to create meaningful projects they will remember for years to come.
It will help prepare them for middle school where they have 1:1 devices. Students with autism are naturals when it comes to using the iPad. By using the touch screen capability students who lack motor skills can do projects they may otherwise not be able to do. All students will have the opportunity to create meaningful videos to use as a resource for learning.
