Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our fourth grade class mentors a kindergarten class at our school. Every week, each fourth grader mentors their "buddy" through activities and provides support and encouragement for these young students who are just starting out.
The cushions will provide extra seating in the classroom, while the dry erase/Mr. Sketch markers will be used during the individual activities (such as letter formation on whiteboards and chart making.)
By the end of the school year, each fourth grader will help their kindergarten buddy read at least ten books, developing confidence and fluency in reading while enhancing their own mentorship and communication skills. Additionally, we aim to create a supportive and engaging environment that encourages a lifelong passion for reading in both grades.
My students never let the fact that they attend a Title I school affect their ability to learn, create, and share, which is what I admire most about them. They are amazing kids who will do great things in the future, they just need the tools to help them along the way.
