Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, talented and work extremely hard each day to go above and beyond to do their best. These students and their peers make up our 99% Latino school population. Many of these students come from low income and poor performing communities yet, they come ready to learn everyday. With very little resources, my students encourage and motivate each other to continue to gain knowledge in the classroom and out of the classroom while strengthening their character as individuals. Recognizing the efforts of my students monthly through this reception, motivates them to continue to enhance their character and inspires others to do the same all while making everyone a better person.

It's also important to me to make sure my students have a snack before going home.

The majority of my students count on the meals they receive at school and anytime they can get a treat before going home is an added bonus.

My Project

The character of a student is important to their success! Every month school wide we work on a character education traits. So far, we've worked on responsibility, honesty, respect and empathy. Teachers nominate one student a month who has gone above and beyond to exhibit their knowledge, understand and implementation of the trait of the month. In return for their hard work and efforts, that student is then the Student Leader of the Month for their class. At the end of the month, all student leaders are invited to a small reception where they will receive an award on bright colored paper, a snack and a special pencil to take home.
