Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach journalism and am adviser to the school newspaper at a small public high school in New York City. Our college prep school targets a diverse student body from all over the city.
Donors Choose helped us get an excellent mid-range camera for our school newspaper. However it's difficult for the 20 students in my elective to share the camera to learn the basics of photography and also get engaging photos for their news articles.
My students need a few inexpensive and basic digital cameras to learn how to take engaging photos for journalism. My research tells me the Casio Exilim EX-S5 is the best for its price.
My students already know that a good photo can communicate a powerful message. Teaching them how to CREATE a visual image will make them more literate citizens in our media-rich 21st world. I hope you'll help me provide my students with the technology they need.
