This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

Josselyn, Tai, Kevin, Samantha, Tyree and Laura organized this project during a conversation in Advisory. They work hard but do not feel connected to other peers. Also, they want to be in a safe place to HW but then have a venue to have fun with their peers. Work hard then play hard.

We do restorative justice at our school. In a circle when students share what is on there heart and minds this came out. They stated that all they do is school and homework. At home they do not have a place to socialize or a quiet area to do homework. Many stressed they wanted to be in school after hours to do homework but also have a place to have some fun with kids. They brainstormed about ideas. The X-box was a common theme that majority thought would be fun. The teacher would then do groups. 1 group does there HW and plays then another group goes.

Students will learn the value of discipline and time management. They will learn to do first things first before they do play. In groups, they will to connect to students they did not know and learn to develop to be more open to diverse personalities.

In Their Own Words

I am trying to learn to be more responsible. I often do not do homework and or study. I get distracted by things like my phone and often times I cant find a good place to feel comfortable. I know in college I need to be self motivated. My teacher tells me all the time do the things I need to do first so I can have fun with a free mind. I want to learn how to do this.

I will be the point person. I will have to get different groups to sign up. Also, I need to have a HW checklist to ensure everyone does the things they need to. Only then can they play the games. I need to be organized and I will need help other students to help me do this!

So many of us do not have a place to study. I share a bedroom with 3 of my sisters. My best friend lives in the projects and we cannot meet after school to study or play. This project gives a safe place to get our work done and then meet with our friends and meet new friends.
