My Students
As a school counselor in a low-income/high poverty school district, where 100% of my students receive free lunch, I see that they are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the various challenges they face, they still are an eager bunch that has the ultimate desire to learn. As a support team member, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I am here to support their academic, social/emotional, and career development. Through various lessons and activities I hope to develop successful citizens of our community! I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure they are supported in and out of school.
My Project
Rowland Elementary is a Title I school so the majority of the students come from lower-income families. Students will often come to school without socks, proper shoes, shirts, pants, etc. We are lucky enough to have collected quite a few of the essential items our students need. We have some, but not all. Socks and extra masks would be useful for us to have for the students' protection from germs and outside elements. The main concern is a place to store them.
Storage for these items is an issue because we keep them in our counselor suite where we also host family meetings, small groups, and counseling sessions.
Having the clutter in this one area causes a distraction and an unorganized office space. Donors Choose has been great with items for organizing our office in the past and we are nearly finished with what we need. Storing these items in a neat and organized manner will help us serve the students more efficiently.
