Help me give my students a classroom projector cart, Plicker cards, and dry erase markers; to enhance lessons with activities that increase student engagement!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach United States history to about 130 Sixth grade students in a Title I middle school located in a high poverty and low income area of an urban city where 100% of the students receive free lunch. Over 70% African American students make up our schools population, where many come from economically disadvantaged homes.
Despite the challenges many of them face, they are highly motivated and eager to learn.
My goal is to maintain a dependable, nurturing, and safe learning environment that focuses on academic growth!
My Project
Many middle school students don't find History exciting. I would like to enhance my lessons with the use of technology and manipulatives as much as possible to help maintain student interest and engagement.
The projector cart will allow me to use multiple technology devices to project lessons and activities such as Plickers Review and Jeopardy games.
The dry erase markers are used when the students use the desk maps in class and constantly need to be replenished.
I currently use Plickers as a means for formative assessments and noticed that even students that struggle tend to put forth more effort with the use of the cards instead of traditional paper and pencil assessments. I currently have one set of cards for 130 students. With flu season approaching a set for each class would be much healthier than sharing the same cards.
