My Students

I teach at a STEM-focused elementary school. My students are creative, inquisitive, and compassionate second graders. They are learning about community, responsibility, and collaboration in a hands-on STEM classroom. I am inspired by their love for learning and their willingness to push through the tough stuff.

My students are doers, leaders, and our future.

My students thrive in a classroom that supports choice, creativity, and the freedom to think outside the box. They start every day with yoga and meditation. My students thrive when problem-solving and finding answers to today's social injustices. They put together a yard sale to send a girl in Pakistan to school. They care. My students love to talk through problems and share ideas. They are collaborative, cooperative, creative, and kind. Each and every day they inspire me to become a better teacher.

My Project

We need erasers, pens, and toys to fill the store shelves, and calculators, cash boxes and money to get our classroom economy back on its feet. Our banker is overworked and struggling to stay organized. Our Student store is running on empty and our cashiers have lines that are backing up because the store shelves are empty and they have to share a calculator.

Help my student run economy get back on its feet.

I am building financially literate second graders who are working, earning paychecks, and saving their money in the bank. My students jump at the chance to earn extra money, but my banker and cashiers are in desperate need for help. Through a classroom economy my students are building a conceptual understanding of money, addition and subtraction skills. They are also problem solving, saving, and learning the difference between needs and wants. Our classroom economy builds math skills while learning the value of a dollar. These are future financially sound adults.
