This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Elementary school is a precious time of foundational learning, exploration of different subject matter, and building friendships. Many of my students have been at this school since kindergarten and will enter seventh grade next fall. Having students contribute to and work on our sixth grade yearbook is a beautiful way to capture memories and send off our soon-to-be middle schoolers.
Having a student-led and student-centered yearbook is a great way for my sixth graders to build leadership skills, share their voices and opinions, and learn basic elements of design needed to produce a quality product.
As the yearbook coordinator, it has been a great experience seeing which aspects from previous yearbooks students want to keep, and what fresh ideas they have for their current year. Through the creation of our sixth grade yearbook, students will learn how to clearly communicate their ideas, work as a team, and give constructive criticism. Students also put their literacy skills to work as they proof-read and edit written portions of the yearbook such as student quotes, headlines, and student surveys.
With the help of donors like you, our sixth grade yearbook will come to fruition and my students will have a lasting piece of memorabilia of their last year of elementary school.
