This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title One public school located in inner-city Los Angeles. Many of my students come from low-income families. and do not have regular access to books, supplies or even regular homework support. They depend on teachers and school staff for support.
They are eager and enthusiastic students who come to school to learn new things every day with a positive attitude and I strive to provide them with an environment that can help them be successful.
They are curious about all things around them and the unknowns.
My Project
Sitting at a desk day in and day out can become dull to a student but creating a more student-centered learning environment can motivate students. I would like to use a long, rectangular table as an alternative to the student desks that we are currently using in order to create a space where big groups can come together to work. The desks we have now are not inviting for group work, and do not allow for flexible seating. With this table, students can feel empowered in choosing their own seats, during independent time or group activities, and probably stay more focused and engaged on their work.
