Student Designed Pedal-Powered Mobile Charging Stations
My students need the soldering tools to build pedal powered mobile device chargers so they can exercise and charge their mobile devices while learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." ~Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Our students are intelligent, hardworking students who come from a generation of mostly uneducated parents.
A large portion of our students are first or second generation migrants, some of whom cannot read, speak, or write in English. Migrants typically make up a large portion of the labor force. I want to take skills that most of my students possess or will learn from helping their families work and give them more opportunities. As a member of ATPE or Association Texas Professional Educators I hope to improve the future for my students. I am collaborating with other teachers in our school, electrical and welding professionals in our district, and engineers in our city to maximize the potential of this project.
My Project
Students live on mobile devices. We now ask them to use these devices in school but do not provide a way to charge them. While we as educators are learning that light exercise while obtaining information greatly aids student retention, we are also battling to keep Physical Education in schools. We want to purchase materials to allow students to research, design, and build different models of pedal-powered mobile device chargers to use to incorporate exercise, engineering and “free” electricity into our classrooms. We are requesting soldering irons to connect all of the wiring needed to build mobile device chargers. These tools are part of the larger project that will allow our students to create something that will leave a legacy for our campus. This project will also inspire future students as we plan to donate some of the bicycle powered cell phone chargers to other campuses within our district,
Evidence shows when students are engaged towards a goal, scores and behaviors are positively affected.
This project will translate classwork into real-world knowledge and skills. Physics, biology, anatomy health, and PE courses are all important individually; however, we have the potential to encompass all of these lessons throughout their high school careers into one project. My students will have the satisfaction of building something that leaves a legacy to inspire future students.
