COVID-19 took a huge toll on the social development of our students. They missed out on hugely formative years of interacting with peers both in learning environments and moments where they could just hang out with kids their own age.
I am creating two clubs at my Elementary school and this project will help bring them to life.
Passport on a Plate and Weird Animal Club will be open for application to students of all academic levels and will focus on creating a place where students will get a chance to practice important standardized skills like reading, but more importantly be a place where they can safely and positively build their social skills.
Passport on a Plate is a club where students will be working together to learn about new countries. We will be doing crafts and trying snacks from those countries to engage interest! The snacks I have requested will be great conversation starters and create lifelong memories!
Weird animal club will involve researching and doing unique activities based on "weird" animals. For example, I am requesting clay so that we can sculpt Nudibranchs after learning about them and I am requesting red balloons to go along with our learning about the Magnificent Frigatebird!
