Student Choice Seating

My students need 2 children's armchairs and a table with 4 stacking stools for student choice seating. In addition, I am requesting storage systems for organization.

My Students

I have 18 second grade students who are eager to learn! We are a Title I community based school. While we have a high poverty level, we have a tight knit community that strives to put the educational needs of our students first! Students at our school participate in the Leader in Me program to learn 21st century leadership and life skills creating a culture of student empowerment. We are a leadership model school, Lighthouse School, and we are shaping leaders for the future!

My Project

Our school is a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. We are centered around student voice & choice. Students have expressed a need for student choice seating around the classroom. These options will give students areas where they can meet to collaborate or just relax. We are a STEAM school and it is vital for students to meet to collaborate about STEAM units. Right now, students are sitting in traditional chairs all day long and struggling to stay focused. I want to provide a variety of seating choices. Some students work well with a group while others yearn for a quiet place to work. Environment shapes experience! The storage systems will give students easy access to materials. One storage system will house math manipulatives and the other will house literacy materials. Students will be able to independently find and access the materials needed to be successful.
