I am a teacher in a Title I school where my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They like to move, they love to read, and they love lots of positive attention.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth, educationally and mentally. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire our deserving learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My goal for this project is to create a student centered learning environment using differentiated stations. Since my school is Title I, I believe every moment counts and needs to be fun and engaging! With the resources I am requesting, we can play and learn all at the same time. Jenga will have standard based questions for texts and stories on it while the Scrabble can be used for vocabulary words and Greek and Latin roots. We also need timers and buzzers to be able to pace ourselves while we prepare for our test to learn timing concepts. Having clipboards will give my students an unlimited variety of seating around the room.
I want every day and every lesson to stick with them and be memorable.
This project will allow the students to be able to drive instruction based on their learning needs and interest. Having this variety of manipulatives and games can also open up the discussions between their peers. Breaking down the "paper pencil" learning barrier will be easy using centers of their choice. I hope to widen our learning strategies and let their personalities shine into our instruction!
